What is the Intensive Outpatient Program?
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers comprehensive treatment for adults who do not require 24 hour care. Participants attend therapy groups during the day or evening and return home each day.This program provides a supportive environment while teaching life enrichment skills. Participants are encouraged to practice skills learned in group as they continue everyday activities in their home and/or work environment. The Intensive Outpatient Program empowers clients as a supportive transitional treatment following inpatient hospitalization but is also accessible directly from the community.
Who Can Benefit from IOP services?
The Intensive Outpatient Program is designed to empower those who wish to strengthen their positive coping skills that will assist them in overcoming the challenges of a mental health diagnosis such as depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder. Participants in the Intensive Outpatient Program attend life enrichment sessions on topics such as:
- Enhancing decision making skills
- Increasing self awareness and socialization
- Learning how diet and exercise contribute to our energy levels
- Exploring coping skills and learning healthy interpersonal boundaries
- Learning productive ways to manage triggers and symptoms of your diagnosis
How does the Intensive Outpatient Program Work?
Hours of Program:
Clients attend three times per week initially, gradually decreasing attendance over weeks according to their individualized treatment plan. The program meets for 3 hours, 3 days a week during the day or evening. Day sessions are 9am - 12noon. Evening sessions are 6pm - 9pm.
Therapy Program:
Clients attend regularly scheduled groups based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These groups focus on topics such as grief work, coping skills, anxiety and depression education, spiritual care, stress management and problem-solving, communication and relaxation skills. As clients leave the program, our team is dedicated to assist each client acquire and utilize community resources. These resources may include sessions with family, connecting a client with an individual therapist or arranging community based mental health services.
Insurance:
The program is covered by most major insurance companies including Medicare (Part B). If you also have Medicare supplementary insurance, the deductible and the 20% co-pay may also be covered. Travis County residents who meet criteria may qualify for financial assistance. Our admission staff is available to answer in advance any concerns you may have about your specific coverage.
